Diploria

Content freshness is how recently a page was published or meaningfully updated. Fresh content reflects current information, and both search engines and AI systems show a measurable preference for it, especially for fast-moving topics where outdated answers are a liability.

For brands, freshness is a practical and often underused lever. Analyses of AI crawler behavior have found that the large majority of AI bot activity targets recently published or updated content. The key word is meaningful: bumping a date without changing anything does little, but genuinely updating statistics, examples, and detail, and then reflecting that in the modified date, signals current relevance and helps content keep earning citations.
