AI Agent

An AI agent uses a model and tools to take steps toward a goal. Learn how agent workflows differ from single answers and why accessible brand facts matter.

Diploria

An AI agent is a software system that uses an AI model to choose and carry out steps toward a goal, often with tools such as search, databases, or external services. It may inspect results, revise its next step, and continue until it reaches a stopping condition. Its autonomy depends on the permissions and safeguards built around it.

Not every chatbot is an agent. A system that returns one answer without selecting further actions has a different workflow from one that plans and executes several steps.

Practical relevance

A purchasing assistant might search for suppliers, check delivery regions, and assemble a shortlist before asking a person to approve an order. A brand needs clear, accessible facts about its offerings and restrictions so those steps can use accurate information.

Being mentioned or cited in an agent's research does not mean it will choose that supplier or complete a purchase. Availability, user requirements, tool access, and approval rules can all affect the outcome.
